Process & Materials

Elegance was painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint on board. The smooth matt surface created by the chalk paint allows subtle tonal variations within the pink background and petals to remain soft and harmonious, while still preserving the crisp edges and carefully observed details of the flower.

Working on board provides a stable surface for building successive layers of colour and refining the delicate transitions between light and shadow. The combination of carefully controlled brushwork and a restrained palette allows the graceful silhouette of the peony to become the defining feature of the painting.
